Hightlights INS COMPANY
The whole DMR grade specialised steel for the first domestically constructed aircraft carrier INS Vikrantwas provided by the country’s largest steel producerSteel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), PSUMaharatna.
SAIL has made a significant contribution to creating a “Atmanirbhar Bharat” by providing roughly 30000 Tonnes of speciality steel for the construction of the Indian Navy’s first swadeshi aircraft will cbeyard,
SAIL provided customised DMR grade Plates for this domestic project’s steel supply. Together with the Indian Navy and DMRL, SAIL produced these DMR grade plates. The hull and interior of the battleship were constructed with DMR plates of Grade 249 A, and the flying deck was constructed using Grade 249 B. Except for the bulb bars, all of the specialised steel has been provided by SAIL’s integrated steel factories in Bhilai, Bokaro, and Rourkela. It is an import substitution to utilise this specific quality steel, DMR plates, for the building of INS Vikrant.
During the Amritkaal of India’s 75 years of independence, the commissioning of India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier is a significant event for our country and demonstrates its confidence and prowess. This homegrown aircraft carrier is evidence of the nation’s technical know-how and engineering prowess. The nation’s defence indigenization efforts and the “Make in India” campaign would be strengthened by this Atma Nirbhar (self-sufficiency) showcase of India.
With the completion of INS COMPANY, our country has joined the select group of countries that are capable of building their own aircraft carriers, and SAIL is incredibly proud to have been a participant in the construction of this engineering masterpiece.
